Beating a Result of Riot or Civil Commotion?
We have a commercial fire policy on a rental unit with named perils coverage that includes riot or civil commotion. A person was visiting the tenant in our apartment. He was attacked by four people in the apartment and beaten severely. Blood splattered throughout the apartment. Does our insured have coverage under his commercial fire policy for this loss under the riot and civil commotion peril?

Generally, riot or civil commotion is associated with an element of public terror or a public disturbance or an unlawful assembly. Actions that take place out of public view, like the one you describe, are not usually considered riot or civil commotion.
