Towing Charge for Covered Autos
Our insured has a business auto policy (BAP) with symbols 7, 8, and 9 for covered auto designations. He borrowed a trailer that weighs over 2,000 pounds. He chose not to purchase hired physical damage coverage for the trailer. An accident occurred and both the covered auto and the trailer were totaled and had to be towed. Would the towing charges for the trailer to the nearest garage be covered under the terms of the BAP?
Arizona Subscriber
The standard BAP covers towing for covered autos of the private passenger type. The trailer is not such a vehicle so the BAP is not going to pay for its towing charge.
