Garage Policy not for Storage Expenses
Our insured is a trailer/RV dealer. His Dodge truck had a fire in the engine. At the time, the insured was pulling an empty horse trailer to bring to his lot to sell. The trailer was not damaged but it has to be stored for awhile and the question is whether there is any coverage under the insured's garage policy for the storage while repairs are being done on the truck?

Unless the garage policy has some kind of endorsement to allow such storage coverage, there is none. Physical damage coverage under the garage policy is for loss to the covered auto and its equipment. Loss is a defined term that means direct and accidental loss or damage, that is, direct actual physical damage to the covered auto and its equipment. A storage fee is not a loss as defined on the policy. This is especially true in this instance since the trailer did not even suffer a loss as defined on the policy.
