IICF brings community together for volunteer project
The IICF granted $30,000 to fund the home improvements of community members in need.
A $30,000 grant from the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF)’s Northeast Division recently brought together Norwalk, Conn., citizen and police volunteers on a project to repair the home pf a community member in need.
Life Line Chaplaincy, in partnership with Rebuilding Together, made an application to IICF for a grant to fund repairs and improvements to the homes of local owners in need of assistance.
Through the grant, volunteers from the Norwalk community and its police department were provided with the materials and supplies needed to address two projects. The first project, which took place in June, was making safety repairs and upgrades to the home of Rosa Lee Elliott, an 83-year-old Norwalk resident. Over one weekend, volunteers spent hours upgrading Elliot’s home, including improvements for handicap accessibility, replacing rotted wood and general painting and landscaping improvements.
A second project is planned for the fall in the Tri-state region.
The grant is just one example of the IICF’s commitment to furthering its dedication to giving back by providing year-round volunteer opportunities in 2019.
“IICF’s Community Grants Program helps to meet the critical need of our communities, in this case by providing funds to Life Line Chaplaincy and its efforts to bridge the gap between local law enforcement and the community,” Elizabeth Myatt, executive director of IICF’s Northeast Division, said in a press release. “Life Line Chaplaincy’s work had a tremendous impact on Mrs. Elliott and the community at large. Positive, community-based projects like this are at the heart of our call for year-round volunteerism.”
