Update for Louisiana veterans seeking insurance licenses

The Louisiana Department of Insurance has been approved to participate in the Veterans Federal Exam Reimbursement Program.

There is good news for U.S. veterans who want to make insurance a career in Louisiana. Those veterans who apply for insurance licenses with the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) are now eligible for reimbursement of the required exam fees. The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs recently approved the LDI’s application to participate in the Veterans Federal Exam Reimbursement Program effective November 1, 2018.

“I am proud that we at the LDI are now able to serve our nation’s veterans by having their licensing test fees reimbursed,” said Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon in a statement. “It is my hope that this will help veterans to explore insurance career opportunities in Louisiana and be able to provide a better living for themselves and their families.”

One year to apply for reimbursement

You’ll still need to pay any fees upfront at the time you take take a licensing exam. But after the exam is completed, if you’re an eligible veteran, you’ll have one year to apply for reimbursement of the fees through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Best of all: There’s no limit on the number of tests you may take, or the number of times you take the same test.
