Florida is the most expensive U.S. state for home insurance, reports the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

The story sums up the annual NAIC rate report released last week, which aggregates data from 2011.

The average premium for a typical homeowner's policy was $1,933 in Florida, which is four times the cost of a policy in Idaho, the cheapest state for homeowners, the article notes.

Florida's premium levels are also twice as expensive as the national average, the articles says.

The Daytona Beach newspaper says the 2013 report shows data that is two years old, meaning it reflects rates that are lower than current price levels. The article adds that despite a low-hurricane catastrophe year, nearly 70% of rate requests submitted to state regulators through October 2013 were for increases.
