American International Group announced it will invest $5.5 million to establish a technology center for application development and management services in Charlotte, N.C., according to an article in Area Development Online.

The new operation will launch in 2014, and it is expected to be fully staffed by 2017.

The new center will be home to the design, development, testing and deployment of new software supporting various insurance functions, including underwriting, sales and marketing, digital channels, risk selection, risk rating, claims adjudication and claims payment, the article states.

With the new center, AIG plans to create 230 new jobs by the end of 2017 in Mecklenburg County.
