Glenn T. Shapiro was appointed executive vice president of commercial insurance and chief claims officer at Liberty Mutual Insurance. Based in the company's Boston office, Shapiro aims to enhance the relationships between claims personnel and agent and broker partners.

InVEST added Carol McClelland to its national board. McClelland is the executive director of the Independent Insurance Agents of Nebraska, and her entire career has been in the independent agency system. She is also an American Society of Association Executives member and serves on the Nebraska Society of Association Executives board.

Mergers & Acquisitions

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. acquired Advanced Benefit Advisors, Inc. Advanced Benefit Advisors offers employee benefit brokerage and consulting services such as group medical, dental, life, voluntary benefits, disability, wellness and long term care insurance programs. They specialize in providing services for the automotive, financial services and healthcare industries.

The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America announced that InsurBanc, a federal savings bank based in Farmington, Conn., is now a division of Connecticut Community Bank.

New Programs

ACE Commercial Risk Services launched ACEAdvantage.net, an online underwriting platform for international travel package policies for U.S. businesses, schools and church groups traveling outside the country. The online platform promises efficiency and ease of use for customers.

The Arbella Insurance Group introduced Carpartment insurance. Carpartment offers policyholders the opportunity to add renter's insurance to their car insurance, in case of loss or damage by fire, burst pipes, burglary, and more. Arbella offers a 10% auto insurance discount for existing policyholders who also purchase renter's insurance through the Carpartment program. Carpartment insurance is available to Arbella private passenger vehicle customers in Massachusetts.

Intellectual Property Insurance Services Corp. launched InventPro Abatement insurance. This program is designed specifically for inventors, start-ups and small companies possessing rights in patents and trademarks. Companies must be able to protect their rights from the predatory business practices of some companies, or risk incurring burdensome royalty payments, unappealing license agreements, being forced into a settlement or going out of business.
