Florida OIR Launches Revised Consumer Site

A revamped consumer site that provides information on Florida property rates is now operational.

The revamped interactive website program designed to give Florida consumers information on property insurance rates is now operational, according to the Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR). The new system, called the Consumer HomeOwners Insurance Comparison Electronic System (CHOICES), was originally released in 2007 as shopandcomparerates.com. At its peak, the site received nearly 10,000 hits a month.  The site had been down for several months during its reconstruction.

“This is an extraordinarily helpful tool for Florida’s consumers,” says Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty. “The system ranks companies’ rates in a given county, along with company contact information, to encourage Floridians to shop for a better rate; the system also illustrates the competitiveness of the homeowners’ insurance market in Florida and the benefits of shopping for insurance.”
